Children - Earn Great Prizes!
Introducing the Journey of Life Children's Treasure Chest. Children can earn great prizes for doing great things! Collect coins for various activities. Spend a few coins for a small prize or collect coins and save for a larger prize.
How do you earn coins? Here are some examples (Rules are subject to change since his is a work in progress.):
- Come to church: 1 coin
- Well-behaved at church (parents' discretion): 1 coin after church
- Bring a friend: 3 coins
- Memorize a Bible verse for memory Sunday (fourth Sunday of the month): 5 coins
- Memorize a Bible story for memory Sunday (fourth Sunday of the month): 5 coins
- Read a whole book of the Bible
- Write a report on a Bible character
- Perform and act of kindness or service
What kind of prizes will be available? A wide variety! Here's a sample of the coin cost (again, subject to adjustment):
- Small prize: 3 coins (eraser, pencil, bouncy ball, etc.)
- Medium prize: 6 coins (glider, fan, hand clapper, write-on/lift-off drawing pad, etc)
- Larger prizes based on value.
So, for instance, if you come to church on Memory Sunday (fourth Sunday of the month) and recite from memory the verse or story of the month, you get 1 coin for being at church and 5 coins for the memory work, which means you immediately earn a medium prize!
July's Memory Sunday will be July 26. You either retell from memory the story of Jesus stilling the storm (Mark 4:35-41) or recite word-for-word Ephesians 2:8-10. Little ones can just do Ephesians 2:8. You may only do one memory item on memory Sunday, either the story or the verse.
The attendance, behavior, bring-a-friend rewards will begin on the first Sunday in August.
For your convenience, here are both memory Sunday items.
Mark 4:35-41 (NRSV) - Jesus Stills a Storm (also found in Mt 8.23-27; Lk 8.22-25)
35 On that day, when evening had come, he said to them, "Let us go across to the other side." 36 And leaving the crowd behind, they took him with them in the boat, just as he was. Other boats were with him. 37 A great windstorm arose, and the waves beat into the boat, so that the boat was already being swamped. 38 But he was in the stern, asleep on the cushion; and they woke him up and said to him, "Teacher, do you not care that we are perishing?" 39 He woke up and rebuked the wind, and said to the sea, "Peace! Be still!" Then the wind ceased, and there was a dead calm. 40 He said to them, "Why are you afraid? Have you still no faith?" 41 And they were filled with great awe and said to one another, "Who then is this, that even the wind and the sea obey him?"
Ephesians 2:8-10 (NRSV)
8 For by grace you have been saved through faith, and this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God- 9 not the result of works, so that no one may boast. 10 For we are what he has made us, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand to be our way of life.

We chose the name, "Journey of Life," because we believe that every person's life is a spiritual journey. Every one of us on the journey needs a community of love, acceptance and encouragement to grow into the person we are meant to be. Journey of Life strives to be just such a community.
Every person is welcome at Journey of Life, regardless of his or her beliefs or spiritual background. As a church for people on the spiritual journey of life, we are committed to being a place where people can:
- be themselves;
- make some real friends in this community;
- learn and live profound spiritual truths in very practical ways; and
- have a really great time. (We wouldn't be introducing Journey of Life to you completely if we didn't tell you that we laugh quite a bit!)
Click on "Family Resources" to the left to reach "Ready, Click, Grow!" You will find ideas and resources for keeping your family growing together and passing on your faith to the children around you, whether you are single, married without children, married with young children, married with older children, empty-nesters, grandparents, cousins, aunts, uncles... you get the idea.
